All About Me...
I began teaching first grade at Havencroft Elementary in Olathe after graduating from Emporia State University. While at Havencroft, I earned my Masters of Teaching degree from Webster University. I continued to teach first grade for seven years at Havencroft until our first son was born, Alex. He is currently an Olathe Police Officer. Alex is married to my sweet daughter-in-law Savanna, and they have given me my first beautiful Grandson, Rivers. He turns one year at the end of August. Next, our daughter Rachel was born. Rachel is beginning her fifth year as a Math teacher at Olathe South High School and is the Head Cheerleading Coach as well as the Leadership Facilitator. Last summer Rachel married Josh Jetton, who also is a teacher and coach for the Olathe School District. Finally, our son Nick was born. Nick has lived in Rome, Italy and Los Angeles, California for the last couple of years. Recently, he began working for Phoenix Healthcare with their home health and hospice division. All our children went to Olathe North High School and K-State University. My husband is retired and loving it. When I’m teaching, he spends time fishing on our boat and playing with Rivers. We love taking our fifth wheel to Melvern Outlet Park every free minute we have!
I went back to teaching when Nick was in fifth grade at Rolling Ridge Elementary. I taught Fourth Grade for two years and then my favorite grade, Kindergarten. I taught Kindergarten at Rolling Ridge for nine years. During that time I earned my ELL Endorsement from Kansas State University. I loved my years at Rolling Ridge and the relationships I have established there mean the world to me, but I decided it was time to see what teaching outside of a Title/ELL site would hold. The staff at Prairie Center could not be more loving, warm and accepting. This will be my sixth year at Prairie Center teaching Kindergarten. I have loved every minute of my time here. I also have lived in Persimmon Hills since 2003 and that certainly makes me feel more at home.
I appreciate all the warm welcomes I have received from the parents and children at Prairie Center and hope to always keep the lines of communication completely open between us. You will be so excited to watch your little ones grow and learn throughout the school year. I can truly say there is no other year in your child's education that you will see such change and progress!
Take Care,
Susan Carroll
